Monte Malach, 85, of Battery Park City, Manhattan, remembers a time when soda fountains occupied any busy street corner in New York City.

"Every business corner in Brooklyn and Manhattan always had a soda fountain," Malach says. "I think they started to disappear in the late 50s and definitely [were] gone by the 60s."
