The Best Elements of 60's/70's stylee catapulted forward to the 22nd Century!
Formed by Dave Naylor following the demise of Alt' Rockers The Purple Effect after their German Tour imploded in Summer 1993. Dave wrote the song "Cut" using Danny Ashberry's fingers & poached Guitarist Stuart Wilson (Steve Fiasco) from Funk outfit Dylan Roach.Next to the mix was Glaswegian Drummer Mik Grant & Keyboard Wizard/Producer Andy Melchior who in-between projects created the Aniseed "Sound" with his dash of '60's/'70's authenticity & Pop sensibility to counter Stuarts' more "angular" hooks. After a couple of Gig's with Purp's Bassist Liam Cuffy Mr Ashberry stepped into his shoes & the Classic line up was complete. Aniseed took their first 10 songs, cut away the chaff & with Danny's help weaved the Atmospheric of tracks like "Stern's Hacienda" & the Epic "At The End Of The World Is..." to create the "Jazz Cigrettes" concept around popular Balls'ier tracks such as "Freeway""Indigo" & the ballads "Imps" & "Child (real or Imagined)",. After a series of shows never a Band to rest on their laurels they changed track embracing their Glam influences & Avant garde Voodoo Rock to create "Aniseed's Greatest Hits" with classic tracks "Glitter Bomb","I Wanna Rock Like Iggy Pop","Captain Superman",the Roxy/Velvet Underground-esque "Sugar Chicane" & Mr Melchior's fantastic "9 Million Miles". With imput from Blueprint Studio's Gaz Hadfield & later Yves Altana a London Managment deal, recording at the Strongrooms & a microcosm of "Spinal Tapisims" lead to Aniseed's premature implosion in March 1998.Andy walking out of a production meeting with The Stone Roses's Mani over the state of the studio catering!
Fast forward in a DeLorean 12 years & Grant, Naylor & Wilson buried the hatchet (not this time in each other's heads) & reformed for a special show on the river Thames. The following year Danny Ashberry returned & now with added Firouzah Razavi & Saxophonist Jaki Chapman Aniseed embark upon Phase 2. Re-Imaging & re-recording "Jazz Cigrettes" with undeveloped material from it's concept period, writing brand new styles for Aniseed "Onassis" & eventually tackling their shelved project "Welcome To Honduras".New Single "Sunshine Ya Ya" is one of the first fruits to be released in 2013.
