This is a remix I did for Chris Jackson's "Resource" imprint of an old favorite track he did. As with many (if not all) of the Resource remix projects, we didn't send each other stems or parts, we just did it up with the finished track as source material. Way more fun in a way. This piece sorta nods at my interest with the two-step rhythms I was hearing back then, as well as a period where I was investigating the creative uses of violent short/long/decay/reverb/noreverb juxtaposition. You can really hear it here and in some remixes I did for M Liu's Illuminated imprint at the time.

Thanks for the feedback! I really thought this sounded weird when I first sent it to Chris and now it kinda sounds like really restrained dubstep. Funny what a few years will do.

I have no idea what to call it. The original track started out life as crisp techno/electro with Chris Jackson's trademark bonky Nord sounds all over it. After my choppery and added sounds, it's no longer tech/electro. That weird chanting stuff is taken from the people chanting near the water's edge in the movie "Rockers", run through an FFT timestretch tool I made in Max/MSP that used Ms Pinky as a control interface. I need to set that up again (difficult as my turntables are not in a different room than my studio/computer), it's a truly weird thing... you use the vinyl ala Final Scratch to move through the sound, but it just controls the part of the sound being "stuck" without it affecting the volume of pitch. This is also one of the last tunes I made with my favorite outboard sampler, the Yamaha a4000. Bummer, that thing is WICKED badass in the way you can teeter between synthesis and sampling (loop tuning down to single cycles, amazing filters, etc), but the knobs on it are just plain dirty and hardware samplers are so annoying to use compared to computer based software.
