Andy Shef may be a new name on the house music scene, but he is by no means new to house music. Over the past decade, he has travelled to some of the best clubs around the world in search of inspiration from his favourite DJs, an experience which laid solid foundations for how to play a crowd.
His passion for electronic music was born during his student days in Sheffield, where he picked up his DJ nickname, Shef, on a particularly alcohol fuelled rally from London to Mongolia. Those early years spent in Sheffield also meant that Andy found himself right in the midst of the weekly Gatecrasher era at Republic where he discovered trance, progressive and eventually house.
Heavily influenced by the likes of Sasha, Digweed, Kleinenberg, Lawler, Howells and Cattaneo in the early days, the Guildford-born DJ is now following artists like Vincenzo, Tigerskin, Shonky and Steve Mill, among many others. Fascinated by the deeper spirited side of house, Andy’s sets encompass a range of styles from moody atmospheric grooves to beautiful melodic sounds, sometimes progressive, sometimes tech house, and even occasionally disco, entirely depending on where the night and the crowd want to go.
Andy started his DJ career playing local bars, with his club debut at Fac251 in his new home, Manchester. He is also working hard on his production skills in the studios of Manchester Midi School, so watch this space for future productions.
