Andy Kong’s relationship with music has been a lifetime love affair. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by the sounds of James Taylor, Jeff Buckley, Eric Clapton, and Damien Rice. He started making a name for himself in his hometown of Ukiah CA, when he released his first self-produced album “New Day Rising” at the age of 15. The songs on this album were just a glimpse of the budding talent that was to come.
Building his chops, he performed shows whenever he could and was featured on many radio stations including KGO, KRSH and KWNE. Also, he was Jelli Radio’s featured artist for the month of April 2011.
In fall of 2009 he released his second self-produced album “This Beautiful World”. This album triggered reviews such as, “If you either are mending a broken heart, or are the happiest you've ever been in your life -- might I suggest Andy Kong's record "This Beautiful World?" This album is still finding its way into the ears and hearts of fans.
Known as a “triple threat” with his recording and engineering skills, his musicianship and his powerful live performance, he is one artist that has it down on all levels. He self-produces his tracks on Apple’s Logic Studio and performs every instrument on his recordings.
As a songwriter and collaborator, he has the chameleonic ability to get inside of a song and serve it well. Ranging from rock, country, classical to hip-hop, he has the ability to add just the right ingredient to make the recipe of a song complete.
His recent release “Freedom and Photographs” , which captures his experiences and adventures while studying abroad in Europe, has been named by fans as “The New Summer Anthem” and is just beginning to take flight.
After graduating with a degree in Cognitive Science from Cal Berkeley in May 2011, Andy will be focusing on music full time and will be working on a new album, while actively playing live shows and seeking out other artists to collaborate with. The world is only just beginning to get to know this true talent.
“Andy’s music comes from the heart. It’s real… His music is soulful. It’s like he writes stories in his songs. I want to keep listening. Stellar CD.”
- Jennifer Radov (Jelli Radio)
“Very impressed – leaps and bounds ahead of many other Indie artists… The CD is great. Andy’s talent is amazing!”
– Stacey Kumagai (Media Monster Communications)
“What sets Kong apart from his colleagues is his sort of timelessness in the way that he transports you.”
