other than a couple volume dips, one of the best I've heard in quite a while. THX. btw- i use MIKey? do you. if not u got an ear like an autotuner. =;o)
- Andrew Cox on October 29, 2009 17:58
@ablekid: hehehe, well it must be a weird ear of some kind. =] I actually go through every track after I buy it and sit down at the keyboard to figure out the root, 5th, 3rd, 7 7th if it applies to the track, then label all my CD's accordingly. That way I can do keyed or harmonic mixes through a set, and go back and forth between major & minor sounding tracks with less of a 'jarring' affect on the dance floor. It also makes finding the next track easier : )
-
@Andrew Cox: Hey Andrew, Hope all is well my man...I'm all about harmonic mixing too, have been since 2006 using the Camelot Key scale, but I use (cheat with) =;o) Mixed In Key software. my mixing took on a whole new level once i did. ***please czech out my mix on my page if u wanna hear my MIK result (it's the only mix up right now). From listening to the mix now a couple times i know u know ur shit. i'd think MIK could save a bit o' time, but that's it. u got it down my M8. Danny

This is a promo mix I made for WMC 2008. It was also my first mix done on CD's after getting back into DJing after a 4 year hiatus. The latest remix from Chloe & I which will be coming out very soon on Further. Big sounds, swells, and texture on this one; hope you all like it! =]Andrew Cox - Clouded City (unfinished idea) Uploaded by Andrew Cox Start following Send a message on September 04, 2009 18:52
37 Plays2 Comments downtempo electronica mp3This is a bit of a departure from the norm for me but I was dying to work on something original and this was the first result. Vocals from a friend, strings, and some trippy piano are still in store for this one. This is unmastered so you'll have to turn up the volume a bit.Dreams In Blue (Andrew Cox Remix) [final edit] Uploaded by Andrew Cox Start following Send a message on August 04, 2009 18:58

Cool. sounds a touch like unkle in a state. Nice vibe to it. Look forward to hearing finished version....
- Andrew Cox on August 06, 2009 23:06
@Ian Rubert Audio: Thanks Ian! I should have the final up here in a week or so, with mostly the same vibe, but technically a different genre, we'll see...

Hey Andrew, this is my kind of music - a really nice piece of prog. At the point where I write this, it sounds great when everything comes in just after the short pause. The hi/lo background rhythm adds a lot of character and the bass is very cool. You have loads of these cool, atmospheric FX in the main breakdown which work really well into the build up. The build around 3:30 may benefit from a bit more intensity. Also, the potency of the kick seems to be lost amongst all the sounds and may need a little more punch. I'm no expert though and this may not be too much of a big deal as it is more of a laid back prog piece which probably doesn't require a heavy kick. A really nice piece of work - I'd love to be able to put something like this together myself.
- Andrew Cox on August 06, 2009 23:15
@Nihilist: wow thanks a lot man for all the feedback, that's awesome. i'm completely with you on your comments about the build up and kick. I've got too many sounds "left unchecked" in parts which causes some of them to drown others out. It's especially noticable after a quick & dirty mastering job which squashed the low mids too much. just need to do some tuning of each using the spectrogram and get em all dialed in. this may actually end up being a breakbeat in the end though so the kick will be placed in the mix a little differently which should help keep it from being too quiet. regardless i'm glad you like it, hopefully the final is even better! =]

What a great tune you've crafted here... reminds me of the glory days! (when prog ruled the world, and everything 2 do with clubbing was beautiful..) thanks for the journey :-)
- Andrew Cox on November 18, 2009 19:08
@mattersounds: Thanks man! yes I remember the glory days of progressive as well, it was fun bringing in some of those elements for this one. Glad you liked it!

This end sound reminds me a lot of the sounds used in Sasha's Magnetic North. It's very clever - I have no idea how to create this myself. Also, just before the end, is that the Reason Scream distortion unit being used for the kind of hollow tube background sound?
- Andrew Cox on August 06, 2009 23:09
@Nihilist: it's actually a combination of Warmverb by Tone2 (which I can't recommend enough) and Ableton's Overdrive effect. That and a whoooole bunch of other layers and automation of parameters i can't remember. Mostly a lot of feedback envelope programming I think.

Hey Andrew - great track, really enjoyed it. I really like the filtered electrical twang around the point where I write this. Could this element not be added to the final section where all the new melodies come in or would it sound too busy? I'm guessing the latter but thought I'd ask as it's a really nice touch.
- Andrew Cox on June 23, 2009 23:59
@Nihilist: hehe, funny you should mention that, I actually do have that synth come back in, along with the rest, after the big breakdown at the end of the track sample here. I just didn't want to post the WHOLE thing up yet since i'm working on a full EP release of it on Further Records, hopefully by the end of next month. I'm stoked you like the track though, thanks for listening! =]
-
@Andrew Cox: Ah, understood - that makes a lot of sense. It's a really cool sound - that synth sounds a bit like the Malstrom in action. I'm looking forward to hearing the full version.
- Andrew Cox on June 24, 2009 21:06
@Nihilist: You've got good ears! That's definitely a malstrom. I originally wrote the track in Reason then brought all the waveforms into Ableton and 'phattened' up the sound. =]

I started this track in Reason 3.0 back in 2004 and recently exported it all into Ableton, tuned up some parts, edited others, and filled out the sounds how I wanted them from the beginning. Here's a sample of the final version.Depeche Mode - Peace (Andrew Cox Remix - Competition Entry) Uploaded by Andrew Cox Start following Send a message on May 28, 2009 16:09

So harmonically perfect these two, keys blend so well there is no telling of beginning or end. The way it should be done yo. I listen to many mixes here on the Cloud, that was the best so far. perfect.
