About
Andrew is a graduate of the New Zealand School of Music, where he completed a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours under the tutelage of Michael Norris, John Psathas and Stephan Prock.
He is widely commissioned, performed and recorded throughout New Zealand by professional ensembles including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, New Zealand Youth Choir, Southern Sinfonia and the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir, and by ensembles in Australia, Japan, UK, USA and Germany. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Trusts Young Composers Award, the NZSSC Choral Award and the Edgecumbe Choral Award, and is a current Victoria League Scholar in London where he is studying towards a Masters in Composition with Alison Kay at the Royal College of Music.
Andrew’s music encompasses a wide variety of styles, and this versatility results in an exciting array of creative projects. Andrew’s collaboration with the Dragon Opera Company resulted in a several week-long tour of a children’s opera around primary schools in Wellington, and his collaboration with Toi Whakaari graduate Ciara Mulholland and fellow composer Leon Magowan was presented at the New Zealand School of Music to much acclaim.
