The title “Who followed you into the Desert?/the disturbing Geometry of the new Mirage/Fortresses and Minarets” is an allusion to the writing of Antoine de Saint Exupéry. There are three musical themes that weave in and out of each other throughout the course of the piece, each corresponding to one of the three parts of the title. Correspondingly, there are three dynamic climaxes, and three dynamic lulls dominated by quiet piano with some string activity.
The piece was originally titled “Who Followed you in?” and was only 3:28 seconds in length. And if I had some sense, it would have remained that way. In its current state, I estimate I'll finish formatting a proper score by 2087.
