chilean producer andrés bucci returns to hummingbird with mental menthology, a new mini LP packed with six original cuts and three remixes by two labelmates. andrés draws us into his percussive universe of subtle beat elements, playful harmonic energy, and a delicate attention to detail that underlies each production. the overall tone of the LP is balanced between warmth and subtlety one the one hand, and an uneasy sharp edge on the other, alternatively evoking a sense of berlin’s cold, dark winter and its vibrant nightime underglow.

two of hummingbird’s residents were enlisted for the remixes. label boss edgar jack etches a deep, broken beat mix of “steps ahead” as well as a jackin’ tech house mix of “stimulation”, while doubtingthomas crafts a haunting deep house mix of “tickling whispers”. both remixers have stayed true to the LP’s overall vibe.
