This is my entry to the mixing competition for Ken Lewis' produced track November Skies performed by Lea. Not a remixing competition but a plain mixing competition.
It was a bit of a challenge as the vocals were already pre-squished and pitch-corrected (overly so in my opinion, not a fan of Autotune when used to this extent) and the vocals were also heavily edited with lots of artifacts and digital noise.
To counter this digital harsh sound I used some niche plug-ins such as the Kramer Master Tape and others to bring some warmth back to the vocals and even some instruments. It's very heavy on automation, multi band compression and EQ'ing as the synths were fighting for space in the spectrum and the vocals are easily lost in it but I didn't want to make the vocals stand out just by compressing the hell out of them so used a lot of level riding. With some of my secret recipe books tricks thrown in I think I was able to make this song sound as good as it can be.
What do you think?
