About
A|D (the simple acronym for Analytical Divinity) is the brainchild of singer, producer, and sound manipulator Shamus Sullivan. He currently resides in Vacaville, conveniently located on the outskirts of San Francisco. As an eclectic electronic artist, his music is difficult to define with labels and genres. A|D incorporates psybience, symphonic strings, dirt ridden beats and blips of rhythmic vocal patterns with elements of trip-hop and dub, resulting in a dramatic auditory landscape. The concepts behind A|D revolve around conveying a balance of chaos and order. A|D takes inspiration from psy-fi, cosmology, consciousness, and musical influences including Björk, Shpongle and Tool as well as many others.
Aside from the occasional revolving door of guest artists, A|D is predominantly a solo live act consisting of a laptop, midi controllers, bass guitar, an iPad, effects pedals, and Sullivan’s vocals weaving around the rhythms. What may appear to be a simple DJ set up turns out to be an ever-evolving sonic laboratory, emulating the sensations of a futuristic rock show. A|D works closely with his visually creative counterpart Subliminal Twin, who provides original video art projected on stage during his live performance. Together they create a vibrant audiovisual experience, bringing the songs to life with colorfully distorted displays of reality.
A|D has played at several clubs and festivals from Sacramento to Santa Cruz, performing with a wide array of bands and DJs from all over California along the way. A|D intends to continue bridging the gap between rock shows and indie-electronic gatherings by offering his eclectic brand of genre bending music to anyone who will listen.
In a world when the future was yesterday, the constant advancement of technology and directions of music will continue to have many new faces and new forms of expression. A|D is one artist's attempt at integrating and adapting to this new paradigm.
