Originally intended as a band of sample mixers fixing beats for beat junkies and originally manned by Chris Roach and Marck and Leslie Hardy, "Anti-Melodic Chaotic Audio Assault Technicians" a.k.a. "A.M.C.A.A.T." created a spooky and beautiful combination of found and created rhythms and noise. =========== From microcassette voice recordings of dream retellings over frantic rolling drum fills and punchy dissonant bass slaps to samples of 1930's Italian standards over reverbed drum loops, A.M.C.A.A.T. was poised to create a subgenre of industrial music. Music that sounded like 5 djs mixing at the same b.p.m. but without benefit (or restraint) of musical structure.=========== As things deteriorated in a haze of alcohol induced fueding, the three quickly separated leaving a handful of low quality recordings held by only two members. A.M.C.A.A.T. was on the backburner, in jeopardy of setting off a smoke detector while the chefs slept through it and expired of carbon monixide inhalation. =========== Leslie, refusing to breath the foul air of failure, has set forth to rehearse and refine his primary functions as band member in the early days, beats and sound reinforcment. Advances in electronics, (Mainly, the addition of Macintosh computers as a recording platform. The early recordings were on 4-track cassette.) have allowed for higher-quality recordings and placed the A.M.C.A.A.T. sound randomly throughout cyberspace. The "noise" aspect of the 3-man colaboration has given way to actual melodies, as sparse as they may be, and chaos has given way to order, but A.M.C.A.A.T. is again active. =========== Fusing techno/goth/orchestra/hip-hop and industrial, Leslie is working and awaiting the return of inactive members to the fold. (Kinda like a creepy/weird/fucked-up version of "New Edition" on mind-altering drugs and no desire to sing a single note.) Stay tuned.
