About
Benjie Groves & Tom Elkington met whilst studying at University in Oxford. Both playing guitar and sharing a passion for guitar based music, the two instantly began recording, writing and playing with all things musical. Gradually their attentions both began to turn towards the world of electronica.
Tom, under the alias 'eLDOKO', quickly rose to the forefront of the techno and house nights in Oxford, supporting some of the best around, tearing up the floor with his interest in new tracks and a clear talent when it came to remixing, and quirky jazz and swing infused edits and originals.
Meanwhile, Benjie kept a lower profile, shutting himself away, concentrating on educating himself in song structure and musical theories, taking a keen interest in creating strange harmonies with a constant burning desire to learn more. From this he has developed a highly accurate and well-tuned ear, and offers an ability to complement tracks with his thorough attention to detail.
In January 2010 Benjie and Tom decided to embark on a collaborative project together under the alias 'Ambitur'. Their mission, not to get caught in the sub-genre game of modern times but to create meandering and thought provoking electronic music, with both the dance floor and the arm chair in mind.
Initial releases included the ambient intro track 'Anpassung Pt.1', the haunting 'Amoeba', the iconic 'Sommerwiese' and of course the explosive 'Black'.
Ambitur's first outing was a headline set in February 2010 to a sold out crowd in The Cellar, Oxford. Since this Ambitur have developed a unique show based around live instrumentation and computer based sequencing which has seen them support the likes of Max Cooper, Schadenfreude, Ziggy Kinder and Autophase, as well as playing at Gottwood Festival and clubs such as Ministry of Sound, the Rhythm Factory and the Arches.
The duo are now sharing the duties of Dj-ing and are driven towards developing their live show and track collection with the goal of finding a home for their creations on an equally open-minded platform.
So far in 2011, Ambitur have made further progress, supporting the likes of Stephan Bodzin, Marc Romboy, Joris Voorn & Kollectiv Turmstrasse @ Ministry of Sound playing in front of a full crowd each time. They also recently produced a techno extravaganza at Gottwood Festival 2011, heading the RFID Recursive Dome with Schadenfreude & Cosmonauts on the Saturday night. They have also recently released their latest track, 'Nimbus'.
The pair now look for an official release by the end of the year and things are certainly looking promising as interest in Ambitur grows.
The future potential of both Tom and Benjie, both in terms of production and performance, offers a sense of excitement to all those who follow as their ambit within the world of electronica progressively expands.
