for @disquiet junto #17 "transition"
Plan, in three steps:
First step: At some point during the day, make a field recording of the world around you. Then select a 30-second segment from it. (Please, don't include other people's voices without their knowledge unless you are absolutely certain doing so is legal wherever it is you make the recording.)
Second step: Choose one of the following two preexisting tracks and select a 30-second segment:
Option 1: http://archive.org/download/zero130/01AControlledBurn.mp3
Option 2: http://archive.org/download/WM074_900/WM074-03_64kb.mp3
Third step: Create a new track in which your field recording can be heard to slowly transition into the preexisting track. You can add whatever you like to the new track, and you can transform the field recording and the preexisting track. However, the first five seconds of your field recording and the last 5 seconds of the pre-existing track should be left untouched, aside from fading in and out. The goal is for the transition to be as indiscernible, as seamless, as you can achieve in the time allotted for production.

This track includes a segment of "The Day Love Came In The Mail" by Lee Rosevere off the album Play 3 on the WM Recordings netlabel, thanks to Creative Commons license. More information at:

and these fragments of E. E. Cummings' "29" from 50 Poems:
anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didn't he danced his did.
[..]
stars rain sun moon
(and only the snow can begin to explain
how children are apt to forget to remember
with up so floating many bells down)
[..]

It's not a super-bona-fide field recording, i suppose; i was sitting outside reading some Cummings
(50 Poems, 29: anyone lived in a pretty how town ..)
i programmed supercollider.sf.net to cut that up, and the tail end of the Lee Rosevere track (thanks!)
and to play one cut of each in sync, with some randomness in the length of the cuts and the frequency of the beats.
Then faded out with the tail end of Rosevere.

Again: You're leading this track to a very gratifying conclusion.. guess I let this be the last track for today!

I particularly like the 'anyone...lived' getting chopped and repeated here... and great to hear ee cummings so well read! Another great track.

I like the idea of the music's sudden emergence at the end--the time constraints may have worked out in your favor. Hearing the last section is like stumbling across a beautiful lake after losing your way off a path.

@all n4tural: it's an onomatopoeia attempt as a hybird of fizizng adn fitntig utnil eon acn onglre letl eth nasirtniot..... .. concentrate on the swinging watch, you're getting very sleepy, wanna buy a watch? Probably just some late middle english I hastily misconstrued as I tried to type my exuberance for the noises you had created as they made their way into my head.

@NervousBirds: i got a bit lost perusing that. oddly depressing to see so many, such diverse works of art, each with their own full history, squeezed into a spreadsheet-like listing. i mean, i fully appreciate the value of offering such courses to the world, i really do, but contemplating this one just sucked the life out of me. weirde ..
off to listen lots of heavy metal now!

@Drosera Rotundifolia: thank you -- ghost in the machine. i felt like doing a whole track in that style when i heard it, but this constant junto homework leaves no time.

@naotko: nono, it starts at 0.10 :) the problem with letting the program decide what to do is that sometimes it's too subtle

So glad to hear this now, having just read a MIT online musique concrete course content: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/music-and-theater-arts/21m-361-composing-with-computers-i-electronic-music-composition-spring-2008/ . Coincidence for me. I like the result: the sounds and music matching the sound images of the words.
