Alkaloid was started in the summer of 2007 by producer and multi-instrumentalist Rob Kanters. His extremely varied background, including punk, jazz and classical, combined with many electronic genres, have made his music into the example of current crossovers within the modern electronic music scene.

At first Alkaloid mainly made it's name in the international breakcore underground, but now Rob finds even breakcore too constricting and tries to shift those boundries as well. Now his music varies from peacefully flowing IDM, permeated by psychedelic, filmic passages, that, through many spheric and stylistic shifts, often builds to an explosive and expressive postrock climax.

Alkaloid is bolstered live by the talented guitarist Thomas van den Reydt, with whom Rob crossed paths a little under a year ago. Soon the conclusion was reached, that Thomas would perform the guitar parts in concert, so Rob would not run out of arms onstage as soon anymore.
