ALICIA SALDENHA (pronounced sal-day-nya) was born in the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, home to calypso, steelpan, soca, chutney and rapso music. As a songwriter, her music - which she describes as soul-funk - reflects this unique heritage, embracing influences from jazz to reggae. Alicia has performed at music festivals, concert halls and jazz clubs around the world. She now resides in Japan where she attended university. In an environment notoriously difficult for "foreign artists" unsigned to major labels, Alicia is breaking down barriers between races, cultures and languages, quickly becoming Osaka's number one independent female soul vocalist. Her band features some of Japan's top musicians, including Gaku Nakajima on guitar, Tetsushi Ogino (of jaz'presso) on bass, Takanori Hiraoka on drums, Susumu Muraji on steelpan, Mizuho Masuda (of jaz'presso) on keys, Katsuhiko BJ Sasai (of indigo jam unit) on bass and U-zo Ohkusu (of Zard) on keys. In addition to being a professional vocalist and composer, Alicia Saldenha's resumé includes a long and impressive list of experiences - as actress, dancer, scholar and university lecturer. She plans to release her solo debut CD, recorded in New York with some of the city's finest musicians, in early 2012. In April 2011, she recorded an album with Japanese instrumental band, indigo jam unit. The album, "ROSE," was released on September 2nd, 2011, to rave reviews.

カリブ海のトリニダード・トバゴ生まれ育った、アリシア・サルデニャはプロミュージシャンとして、ソウル、レゲエ、ジャズ・・・いろいろなジャンルの作曲します。アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、日本とカリブ海…各地で。また、ミュージカルやドラマなど女優、歌手やダンサーとしてもテレビドラマの音楽番組とCMにも参加していった。英国の BBC National Chorus of Wales で歌いました。フランスとイタリアのMusic Festivalにも出ました。 勉強のために日本に来ました。神戸大学で博士になって、卒業後作曲とアリシア・サルデニャのバンドでのライブ活動を中心。演奏曲目はほとんどソウル、レゲイ、ファンクとジャズです。アリシア・サルデニャの音楽のスタイルは「ソウルとジャズ風の明るいカリブ海が影響されたサウンド」。今年、アメリカでデビューCDのレコーデイングの予定。来年、全国のツアー！
