About

"What kind of music do you play?"
"Alexplayinlater."
That sums me up pretty nicely.
Like many things on my life, i got into music and DJing a bit later in life, but I believe that is to my credit as well. Because my passion for it has not faded over time.
My 1st love was Hip-Hop. Hands down. Had to have it. I would go to sleep reading production credits. Admittedly, it was more mainstream. I learned alot from who was featured on songs. Also during this time ('98-00 era) some great artists were on their decline, and I would pick up on it and get into their back catalog. While friends went one way with Hip-Hop, I went another when I heard Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Common. So Dope! But times after that, interest faded in the genre, even though I still loved what I'd loved. Interest gained again when I started REALLY getting into classic 90's Hip-Hop albums a few years later. Got a job at a bar that had DJ's every night. As much as I love music, I was just as curious about DJing. Made some friends. Picked their brain. Went to see DJs. Just as I was getting interested in the craft, technology takes things up a notch with Serato (meant to be?) I started finding out names of genres I liked, but didn't know how to describe them. (that was huge for me). Now i had 2 hobbies that feed off of each other and gaining momentum. Discovered samples. Fell in love with samples, and the use of them. I get stoked on certain sounds, progressions and beats, as much as a whole song would.
Add all that up. Put me behind the wheels, and you will get to know me pretty well. The vibe I want to create while DJing, is very positive, funky and you feel it. It is always a great honour and responsibility to be setting the mood for the room. I love it, and I will always be projecting that.
