This is a piece I made for the The Science Museum's OraMIX competition--where we were given stems of bits made by the amazing Daphne Oram.
We were meant to imagine what Oram would have composed for the 1967 TV show "Our World"--a TV show where everything had to be live.
For this reason, I decided to base my piece around improvisations and live transformations that I performed in real-time on the new ipod mini-version of Oram's own Oramics Machine--imagining Oram performing it live for the show. The rest of the piece is made by manipulating the stems provided using basic music concrete techniques.

Charismatic piece, Alex! Having tinkered around with that app, as well, I'm impressed with your results. Intriguing, disturbing, ambient, baleful, droney, and somehow through it all inviting, even happy. A walking, or flying, contradiction. Very nice.

I just googled Oramics because I really didn't know anything about it. Very interesting reading :)

I also figure that I should add, that there are no outside sources on this---only an improvisation on the ipod Oramics Machine and manipulated parts of the stems that were provided. :-)

Wonderful noises. Very analogish sounding. I picture a laboratory full of weird machines. What did you use to make this?
