Alex Lamy is a composer for films, video games and television, and currently works with a number of production music companies, writing genre music for placement in TV, film, advertising and promotional trailers. He has completed a degree in Music Commercial Composition and Technology (BSc) at the University of Hertfordshire and has recently completed a masters programme in Composition for Screen (MComp) at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London.
His versatile compositional ability sees him able to write anything from progressive jazz to full orchestral paintings. As well as composing for a variety of short films, including Jacob Z Klimaszewski's award nominated graduate film Return To Sender, and Matthew J. Rowney’s online series The Red Zone, his orchestral writing is regularly used in collaboration with other artists; most recently working with Azedia on ‘Requiem for the New World’ – a nine minute epic that combines orchestra, choir and electronic dance music in a way like nothing before it. In addition to writing string parts for Azedia’s ‘Calm Down’ and ‘Precipitate’, released on Monstercat, Alex has previously paired with rock band Korda Marshall, comedy rap duo Sanity Valve, electronic producer Empdy and with GraVil, for their Symphonic Death Metal track ‘March of the Titans’
Currently based in London, Alex continues to write music for picture as well as assisting other composers on their projects, most recently working on The Life To Come; an opera written by Louis Mander and Stephen Fry. His sound is a fusion of both orchestral and synthetic elements, rooted in a fascination with an infinite sonic palette and always focussed on how best to connect with an audience. With this, it’s difficult to pick out any specific influences, but whether it’s Aphex Twin, Nat King Cole, Peter Gabriel or Stravinsky, Alex is likely to be a fan.
