About
Growing up in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, Alex Rubio always found one way or another to immerse himself in music. His parents were music lovers and, from a young age, Alex was often gifted cassette tapes. In his adolescence he began experimenting with musical manipulation by recording mix tapes of electronic music from the radio. These developments in Alex’s youth cultivated an interest in dance music that has spanned his whole life.
By the time he was 14, there was no going back. Alex was given his first computer and he began making edits and remixes, distributing mix CDs to anyone who would listen. His passion and desire to share music and the emotions that music evokes remain at the core of Alex’s being today and make his skills as the storyteller through music – the DJ – impeccable.
Only a year after he began DJing he was already entertaining a monthly residency for Digitally Imported Radio (www.di.com). He has since delved back into producing and has spun at a variety of events throughout the region, sharing the stage with the likes of Wildkats, Russ Yallop, Kolombo, Mandy, Danny Daze, Audiojack, Art Department, Audiofly, Luca Bacchetti, Tiefschwarz, Lee Foss, Claude Vonstroke, Puente & Rosch, Popof, Noob, Julian Jeweil, Tim Green, Worthy, Ramon Tapia, Saun Reeves, Clint Stewart, Damian Lazarus, Rick Pier O'Niel, Lazaro Casanova, DJ Three, Tanner Ross, Spektre, and Jeremy P Caufield.
Alex’s sound is as diverse as it is eccentric, making his sets perfect for any dance floor. He is well known for a flow that is both energetic and trippy, a journey through a collection of tracks with a bit of unique funk style. From techno to melodic trance to deep house, his taste has evolved and developed throughout the years, but his true passion always remains – “deep tech with a house taste.”
At the beginning of 2012, Alex helped launch MEXA Records with Louie Fresco (No. 19 Music) and Jay Blakk (Climbers/CulpritLA). MEXA001 was Lee Foss’s Masta Blasta EP, which has been extremely well received by the dance music community. As an A&R with this promising label and a DJ and producer with incredible taste, timing and vibe, Alex Rubio is set to be one of the best in the business.
