I have never felt as good about a song as I do about this one right now. The only thing I don't like about it is that I haven't done vocals and I have no idea what to do about lyrics. I cannot think of a proper melody.
Anyhoo, what gets me is the chorus. I cannot, with any accuracy, tell you what I love about it. I've postulated that it's the ostinato of the guitars over the bass, or the synth over the bass or the bass over the synth. Maybe it's the fact that the vocals, guitars, bass and synths are all playing different things and they all come together into that chorus.
Stretta (look at my follows and followers, and give him a follow) contributed the modular synth parts for the bridge, and with that he basically gave the song its direction. Before the synth parts he contributed I had no idea where to take this song, but as soon as I loaded them in and got them on time, it was perfect. The solo in the chorus was inspired by Isis' "Stone To Wake A Serpent," and was played the same way: a screwdriver, a compressor and lots and lots of distortion and reverb.
I pretty much stole the drum rhythm and basic sound from the Deftones' RX Queen, and originally set out to do so. I had no idea that I would take it in such a different direction. I am so happy right now.
