Stats for this track
This is Raman Bah Tuin playing one of his nose flutes (pensol). Raman belongs to the Semai people, and lives in a village near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This recording was made in the jungle, where he has a small patch of land.
Raman told me that Kasih Sayang means "to love all people", and this tune represents people together.
It is possible that I have the wrong title for this tune. I recorded 3 tunes: Chenloi, Kasih Sayang and Sinui Pai, and I am not 100% sure I have labeled them in the right order.
I have not applied any EQ to these recordings, as I wanted to leave exactly as it was at the time, complete with the buzz and hum of the jungle insects.
These tunes were recorded on Minidisc, and the disc did fail a few times. Take 2 of this tune is was recorded at a better level that take 1, but does have a couple of drop outs towards the end, and is incomplete.
