Sample 1 of ? - Part of my Sample a Day site: http://akisma.tumblr.com/
Recorded with a Zoom H4n
I am Jessica Jacobs, a musician and sound designer with years of experience and a thirst for more. Originally hailing from NH, US, I've lived all over the country and presently live in Hawaii. I've studied everything from classical French Horn to synthesizer programming and construction, to songwriting.
Sound is a passion for me because it effects me in such great ways. I have always loved sounds, not just music; a great wave crash, a steel bar clanking in a particular way, or a synthesizer being bit crushed to hell and back. Sounds are obviously an essential part of music, but have always been important to me as they help shape a moment, whether real or on film, or in a video game. They inspire deep physical reactions in me, and as a result, I can use instinct to shape my own sounds.
I used a field recorder and Ableton Live to create this sound. The initial sample was a wine glass clinking, but upon playing back there was a lot of white noise. I thought I could harness this to create something unique, rather than simply wiping it away as many engineers might. A little compression, EQ, and reverb, and voila! An entirely new way to look at white noise (and wine glasses).
Sound creation and manipulation is something I have a physiological sense about. There are few other things in the world that resonate as deeply with me, or make as much sense. If someone is trying to describe a sound, I can usually find a way to reproduce it. I would like that skill to get even sharper, so I can help shape movies, video games, or ideally, some films that could help change the world we live in, and enrich people's lives. That is always my goal as an artist of any kind: enrich the lives the of those that I reach.

@SaferByTheShore: ultra compression kicking in, a sliding eq that fades towards white, and a saturator (Amp in Ableton) that heats up the signal and brings out the noise, gradually increasing as the signal from the A/C in the background becomes the focus of the condenser mic. heh."

Freaking yeah. It your just hitting a wine glass, I don't how you're processing it. Of course, appropriately I'm on my 3rd glass of wine trying to go to sleep, great sound.
