A field recording of some eucalyptus tree bark and fragments fumbling against one another in the wind. Processing brings out the transitions in the white noise the wind generally provides.
I am Jessica Jacobs, a musician and sound designer with years of experience and a thirst for more. Originally hailing from NH, US, I've lived all over the country and presently live in Hawaii. I've studied everything from classical French Horn to synthesizer programming and construction, to songwriting.
Sound is a passion for me because it effects me in such great ways. I have always loved sounds, not just music; a great wave crash, a steel bar clanking in a particular way, or a synthesizer being bit crushed to hell and back. Sounds are obviously an essential part of music, but have always been important to me as they help shape a moment, whether real or on film, or in a video game. They inspire deep physical reactions in me, and as a result, I can use instinct to shape my own sounds.
I used a field recorder and Ableton Live to create this sound. The initial sample was a bunch of eucalyptus trees on the California coast creating some excellent ambience. The wind was a bit too much for my recorder, though, and since I love to mess with sounds, I thought I would pull it apart and see where it could go. The wind stood out as an obvious thing to shape, and since it was a large sound, I thought I would add some delays and reverbs. The overall outcome is a fantastic transition-style sound clip.
Sound creation and manipulation is something I have a physiological sense about. There are few other things in the world that resonate as deeply with me, or make as much sense. If someone is trying to describe a sound, I can usually find a way to reproduce it. I would like that skill to get even sharper, so I can help shape movies, video games, or ideally, some films that could help change the world we live in, and enrich people's lives. That is always my goal as an artist of any kind: enrich the lives the of those that I reach.
