Adrian Croom is a songwriter, composer and producer born and raised in Austin, Texas. With a captivating blend of electronic and organic elements, his music interweaves programmed beats and synths with live instruments including drums, guitar, cello, violin, flute and euphonium, providing instant appeal for fans of Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Rós and DJ Shadow.
Croom has recorded 3 studio albums including Underwater Orchestra: Expected Closure, Sub Rosa and his most recent release Sub Divo, which features 10 new songs that were meticulously crafted throughout 2013 and which will be released on June 3, 2014.
He has collaborated with some of Austin’s most skilled local talents including Whiskey Jonez, Roberto Riggio (Atash), Travis Bonner (engineer), Issac Pena (Trio Los Vigilantes), Jon McMahan (Caspian), Ira Henderson (Virgin Shores) and Tim Moore (producer), amongst others. He has received airplay and been a featured guest on influential local radio station KUT's radio show, “Eklektikos,” hosted by John Aielli.
But Adrian’s story doesn’t start, or end with celebrating his music. His creative inspiration comes as much from his vastly varied musical influences as it does his commitment to working with special needs individuals and the various challenges and sense of accomplishment that comes with the territory.
Croom currently works as a provider for Austin Travis County Integral Care, which offers behavioral health and developmental disabilities services to those in need. Prior to ATCIC, he spent 5 years at the Rosedale School in the AISD, whose mission is to support the unique needs of its students and provide a positive environment which prepares students to live, work and enjoy life in their community.
It was through these experiences that many of the titles of the songs from 2013’s Sub Rosa originate. “Morse Code” is named after Rosedale student Robbie Morse, whom Croom has worked with as a mentor for many years and with whom he has formed a permanent bond and friendship. The aptly titled track “The Ride” is named after the Rosedale Ride, an annual charity bicycle ride that benefits the non-profit’s students and programs.
Adrian Croom is a welcome presence to the electronic music world. His ear-catching sound is the result of a wide range of influences that include Hip-Hop, Electronic, World music and more, but perhaps it’s his pledge to improving the lives of others that captures the full essence of his art.
He possesses a rarified combination of talent and compassion that truly makes him an artist worth discovering…and an example for all to be inspired by.
