Hello Universe (or Multi-verse)! I am a 26-year-old singer, who considers herself to be an electronic music enthusiast. I use an iPhone 4S and a variety of music apps (NanoStudio, BeatMaker 2, AudioBus, etc). I am also a songwriter, so most of my music is original unless specified to be a cover. I enjoy niche music like sample-based hip hop, contemporary jazz, swing, and soul. However, I appreciate all forms of art that require thought, skill, and talent.
It's the YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF MOST OF MY SONGS ON SOUNDCLOUD! I'm so excited to give extra tidbits about the inspiration behind each of my songs let's start with the first upload:
This was the first beat I tried to sing to. I used a drum loop on a four track app and added the synth sounds on NanoStudio after recording.
NEVER HAD (MELLOW)
I like this better than the original. The inspiration behind the lyrics is unrequited love, although that is no longer an issue ;-)
This beat was made from scratch with NanoStudio preset synths and drums. I guess you can say the lyrics were more celestially or spiritually based.
I sang a 3 part harmony on a 4 track app on the iPhone 4S. I was still trying to figure out how to use Nanostudio, hence the messed up drums. I've never heard a jazz/R&B cover of "Suicide Is Painless" so this was my spin.
OXIMORONIC (DONE LOST IT AGAIN)
I love the sample on this song in the first 4 seconds. For the sample diggers, it's a Glenn Miller classic. Behind the lyrics: just a mixed-emotion based song.
On this song, I used DM1 drums (living recording) via Audiobus 1 and MultiTrack, then I laid down the vocals.
CAN'T HIDE LOVE
This is a cover of the Earth, Wind, & Fire classic, however I was singing to the stylings of the legendary Carmen McRae. I originally sang to an instrumental, but I wanted to bridge the gap between the old and the new.
LOVE LIFTED ME-RMX
I began singing in the church at an early age, so singing this hymnal is second nature for me. I worked hard on my interpretation and timing.
NOPE TO THE POPE
This song was released just when the pope was put on his "holy" throne. I am not a huge fan of organized religion, so "you won't see me donating to 501C3!" lol
LOVE YOU THE SAME
My jazz a capella... I was thinking of doing a more smooth R&B rendition of this song. Hm... I just might pretty soon
LET ME KNOW
I attempted to simplify my often complex stylings and lyrics, and I still like it. Sometimes, less is more. :-)
I used a Drifter's Vinyl. I actually made this beat in less than 30 mins.
LEAVE OR STAY?
This is my anti-club theme song. Too many guys wanna party when they could get more action one-on-one. But if all you want is a chase or an easy fling, by all means STAY.
RIP MALCOLM SHABAZZ
Honestly, I was heartbroken at the news of his passing so I made this song within a week of his demise. If you look up his Al-Jazeera interview on YouTube, he was just as revolutionary and honest as his grandfather. His passing was not a coincidence, but as a people, WE cannot let anything deter us from our ultimate goal of the destruction of royal supremacy.
NO LOVE LOST
This loop sample is from "Baby Come Back." Although, I didn't do a hip hop flip, I seriously enhanced the sound compared to the original. :-P
This is a statement about the marriage rate of black men to white women, compared to the marriage rate of black men with black women. I am not opposed to interracial marriage love, relationships, or children. Diversity is a beautiful thing.
