About
Abdias Ernesto Garcia's music has a unique style born of his passion for life, love and his culture.
Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he was playing bongos, pots and pans by the age of two. At 14, Abdias won 1st place in an
international competition hosted on Univision’s “Sabado Gigante” by performing a musical salute to Tito Puente. As a result of that
experience his idol became a mentor and they shared many musical and personal moments.
Shortly after that he began his studies at La Escuela Libre de Musica in Hato Rey under the tutelage of
some of Puerto Rico’s finest musicians and was soon working with musical legends such as Willie Colon,Tite Curet Alonso,
El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and Tito Puente.
At the age of 21, Abdias felt the need to venture beyond his own island and moved to the US to tour with Reggae artist Danny Dread. Reggae has remained an element of his sound and he still performs regularly on drums with Mystik NRG, the house band at Bob Marley's at Universal Studios,Orlando.
Abdias wouldn't be limited to just Reggae and Latin music though. He's always loved rock and also became the drummer for the hot Orlando based outfit Junkierush, with whom he toured throughout the Caribbean and eastern United States. He recorded two albums with Junkierush and found the process addictive. To learn more about it, he talked himself into a job as studio managerand producer for a local music company, where for the next 3 years he developed his skills as a studio musician, producer and engineer. During this time he and his wife Carolina Suarez-Garcia, a visual artist of notable talent, started a family while he continued to play with any and everybody he could, gather the necessary gear, start writing songs and form his own label, Tacatantan Records. He proudly released his first solo effort “Experimento de la vida” in 2009 to receptive fans and great reviews.
“El Experimento De La Vida is a stunning blend of musical styles from all
around the world. It would be hard to believe that one artist could
combine all of these vastly different genres into one cohesive
package, but Abdias Garcia has successfully managed to do just that.” Beth Mckee (Recording Artist)
"What my ears found via this "experiment' is a lush landscape of cultural design where peaks are plucked from
bright guitars, valleys are molded from deep, rhythmic bass lines, and rivers are carved from the passion of a heart
that isn't afraid to be heard." MetroMix Orlando
Abdias currently lives in Orlando,Florida with his wife Carolina and his two sons Salvador and Pablo
