One of the many compositions for the award-winning design for Domestic Train Wreck. This music underscored a story of escape where a young girl finds peace by riding the Toronto subway during the day to distance herself from her own life.
The show is a partly autobiographic/partly participatory event written and performed by Melanie Bennett and Aaron Collier, and directed by Richie Wilcox. The design involved mixed media elements, such as videos, musical score, live sound manipulation and sampling. The performance transforms Bennett's grandmothers' and mother’s domestic heirlooms and private rituals into a performance that pays homage to failed utopian housewives while examining how ideologies regarding the domestic realm have shifted. The event is saturated with old soap opera clips, romance novels, and game shows that juxtapose the promise of success, happy endings, and winning with the lived experience of failure, apathy, and shame.
