Last song from the 'Fukaeri' project. Bévinda showed me some ideas of lyrics that she had just written. They may have worked for her since they came from her own experience, but I couldn't relate to them, so I penned a draft of an English version, whilst working on sketches for the music. As the song progressed, I got further and further away from Bévinda's original ideas and eventually only kept the title.
The music I wrote then was dark, chaotic, unstable and industrial. The idea was to sing on top of it like a crooner. It was the month of May. I was feeling down, as alive as a dead branch. I was really not inspired so I shelved the song for a while.
Naturally, I wasn't any longer in the same place when I resumed work on it.
Since Black Monday was written during my darkest moments this year, the theme is this feeling of livelessness, when nothing makes sense and the only thing I can wish for is to keep my eyes shut and empty my mind. Not awake, nor asleep.
