[CM FM Dm CM repeat] - it's not so usual to go from a Dm to a CM & although it is not something I would do, I do think it fits the mood of this song.

@Zygadenus: The chord progression is Cmaj - Fmaj - Fsus7...something something. I'm still learning music theory, but I am sure this is Cmaj to Fmaj.

@Naturalysis: Oh crap I see what you are saying now. Your timing confused me. Thanks.

hmm. Very simple sounding beat you have. Also it's along with a very cheerful chord progression.

By the way, you can make a good video-game sound designer too!

This break feels a little too abrupt for me, and also a little empty. Maybe add some sound effects over it to fix both of those problems?

In conventional harmonic practice, basslines are often centered around the root note of the chord; it helps support the harmony a little bit better. It sounds to me like there are a lot of more dissonant chord tones in this bassline. It's not a problem, just so long as you're doing it on purpose.

this particular tone is way too hot, the highest pitch in this melodic line, i have this problem sometimes, it's usually a glitch in otherwise great freeware vsts

@Son of Akira: Yeah its Minimogue VA...I'll see if I can fix it.

Not a big fan of the half-time here.

This would be a great spot for a chord modulation. Perhaps something based in Ab or maybe some exotic scale with an F tonic.

@Zygadenus: This went right over my head. Layman's terms?

    3. Zygadenus on November 24, 2008 06:24

@Naturalysis: @Naturalysis: Chord modulation is modulating the chord progression. So your chord progression throughout the whole thing is [CM FM/FMM7 Dm CM] If you were to modulate to something in ... say [AbM EbM BbM/Dm C#M , EbM BbM C#M/C#MM7 CM]. Here, if this site had audio responses like youtube had video responses, that's what I'll make you. BRB.

Analog melodies in the style of Boards of Canada and Tycho, with a definite upbeat feel. Vocal sample is from the movie Devil's Playground. Let me know what you think. Enjoy.
