Man Like Me - London Town Mixes (Future Perfect #11 / Wicky Lindows #08)

2 tracks, 4.00 720Bass on December 04, 2009 17:42

Man Like Me combine indie, rave, grime, ska and hip hop with matter-of-fact lyrics to create an unquestionably youthful British sound. Fronted by mild-mannered 23-year-old Camden pin-up Johnny Langer, Man Like Me have developed into one of the most original and exciting sounds to arise from a new breed of young home grown bands. They follow a lineage of artists such as Ian Dury, The Specials, Hot Chip and The Streets in making the everyday sound extraordinary.

You may have heard ‘London Town’, blasted out on the festival circuit this summer, with sex-panther performances at The Big Chill, Glastonbury. Lovebox and Bestival, the track also appeared on the Hot Chip ‘Bugged Out’ compilation.

After getting support from Rob Da Bank, Kissy Sell Out, Annie Mac, Ras Kwame, and more, we thought it about time to release this disgusting remix package, crafted by a handful of the most exciting young producers breaking out of the UK club scene.

The remixes are spread over the Future Perfect (Electro House) and Wicky Lindows (Dubstep) labels and feature bonafide belters from our own RackNRuin, hype-star Foamo, Dubstep don Doorly and George Lenton all flexing their dancehall muscle in truly jaw-dropping style.

First up for Future Perfect, international touring artist, radio 1 smash-hitter and Chew the Fat! resident Foamo comes correct with slick, funky and irrepressibly tight beats. RackNRuin on the flip, keeps it strickly dancefloor with militant stepping beats and a cyclone drop.

Then on Wicky, Doorly, who’s credits include Ibiza Rocks resident, remixer of Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris, The Temper Trap, Kanye West and more drops an upfront slab of ice cold, sub low pressure. Half-time drums grind masterfully as acid-flecked bass stabs and rapid-fire soundbwoy FX reverberate like depth charges 100 metres underwater. Hot!

On the flip 720bass cohort and dubstep maestro George Lenton brings a softer sound to the table with this remix full of brooding menace and atmospheric pressure. Huge fizzy pads and vocal glitches add to the tension in this beautifully measured and polished production. Keep your eyes peeled for George's debut up next on Wicky Lindows, you're in for a real treat...
