"BentWithLight" came from a phrase bend with light, which accompanied and inspired Stevey's progression from dabbling in music to embracing Taoist philosophies and beginning what was to be a long road that had only just begun in 1999... six years after having learning the basics of recording.
For this, it is not the destination, but the journey and ten years later, BentWithLight came away with a fairly cohesive identity; that is to not have an identity as far as the creative process was concerned, throwing out labels and preconceptions is at the heart of the work.
The influences are apparent, perhaps used as basic elements into something that later will be forged into a formidable-yet-flexible weapon; a type of sonic warfare made to release the primal fears and inherited programs.
Warfare is at the heart, fire the inspiration; whether in the fatigue of battle or simply survival; Stevey's experience in the military played a part in the overall conception, since during service is when these forces seemed to reveal themselves: in all, life is war- bitter, mundane and cruel....but the transcendence over what appears to be meaningless and void, the effort of transmuting death into new life is the fuel to these mere consequences of organized patterns.
