The Mechanical Bride (2011) is a feature-length documentary directed by Allison de Fren that explores the science fiction fantasy of creating the perfect female artificially and the current reality of artificial companions in the robotics and sex industries. Shot in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, it offers a personal, at times humorous, look at the contemporary "cluster image of sex, technology, and death" on which media scholar Marshall McLuhan commented over a half century ago in his book of the same name.
In reference to the score, Rich Ragsdale's eclectic polymerization of varying themes distinguishes itself outright as an eclectic melodic mix of music that not only characterizes the underlying sadness within the industry, but the bizarre innocence the dolls seem to represent.
