Desktop App: SoundCloud on your Mac

SoundCloud Desktop allows you to access all the sounds that make it to your Dashboard, Incoming and Exclusive tabs. You can create custom playlists and save searches to see the sounds you need in an instant and download others for offline playback. And as with all the official SoundCloud apps, you can easily record and upload a sound whenever you want to share or store something quickly.

Before you start

You need to have a SoundCloud login (if you're a new user, you can get one here) and a Mac running OS X 10.6 or later. Open the Mac App Store, which should appear in your dock after a software update. You can find the app here or by searching for SoundCloud in the Store. Once you've installed it, you can log into your new SoundCloud Desktop app with your SoundCloud username and password.

Overview

Once you’re logged in and ready, you can browse, listen to and explore sounds coming in on your Incoming and Exclusive sounds tabs on the left hand sidebar. You can also check your own sounds and favorites.

Please note: only sounds that have been made available for 3rd party applications will be accessible via SoundCloud Desktop. You can enable application sharing for your own sounds by logging into the website and allowing apps on each sound's edit screen.

Want to share a sound to Twitter or Facebook? Well, go for it! You can just right-click on the sound, move your cursor to "Share to" and choose Facebook or Twitter. If you aren’t already logged in to these services, you'll be asked for your credentials. When sharing to Twitter, there will be an editable pre-written message with a link to the sound. On Facebook, you’ll have the option to add a note to the sound that you’re sharing to your friends.

Just like on the site and the iPhone app, you can record by clicking the Record button on the left side of the app. When you stop recording, you can hit "Save" to save it. You will then have an option to make the recording Public or Private. The app will tell you it’s uploading and return to the "Share Your Sound" screen, which means the recording is transcoding and will appear on the site shortly.
